The House Oversight Committee subcommittee voted to subpoena former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton regarding the investigation of Ghislaine Maxwell, an associate of Jeffrey Epstein. Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) has introduced a motion to obtain crucial evidence amid growing calls for accountability. Lawmakers have aimed to clarify the Clintons’ potential connections as part of the broader inquiry.
The subpoenas are part of a broader investigation that includes a motion by Rep. Summer Lee (D-PA) to obtain Epstein-related files. The motion passed 8–2, authorizing Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) to issue subpoenas to the DOJ.
Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) said, “I think there’s enough people looking at it and I try not to duplicate efforts.” He added, “Listen, I’m as curious as anybody. I mean the whole situation is odd.”
Johnson stated, “I can understand Trump’s frustration, but also understand the American public’s interest in what happened here.”
Alongside Department Of Justice (DOJ) files, the subpoenas request documents on communications with former Biden officials regarding the Epstein case. Attorney General Pam Bondi has remained under pressure to cooperate with inquiries into grand jury records tied to Epstein.
Tensions rose after a DOJ memo declared the Epstein investigation effectively closed. Internal GOP divisions have persisted, with many pushing for greater transparency.
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) said, “Other people are doing it. I’ve got enough other things that I’m worried about.”
