ICE’s tip line receives approximately 15,000 calls each month, playing a central role in the agency’s mass deportation efforts. Under the Trump administration, tactics have included repurposing asylum systems to encourage self-deportation and offering incentives for voluntary exits. Officials have also promoted the reporting of illegal immigrants who are abusive ex-partners.
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said, “We recently got a tip from someone whose abusive ex overstayed a tourism visa. He is now cued up for deportation." Uthmeier added, "If your ex is in this country illegally, please feel free to reach out to our office. We’d be happy to assist.”
Despite ICE's claim to focus on serious criminals, data has shown over 70% of detainees have no criminal record. Critics believe the numbers contradict ICE’s claims that most arrests involve criminal charges.
Uthmeier said, "Florida sets the standard for assisting the Trump administration in enforcing federal immigration law." He later added, "If you're an illegal immigrant in the state of Florida, it's time to go." Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons said the agency targets serious offenders, but noted that sanctuary policies have hindered operations.
The Trump administration’s reinstated collateral arrest policies have led to broader detentions. Immigration and Customs Enforcement attorney Adam Boyd said, “We still need good attorneys at ICE. There are drug traffickers and national-security threats and human-rights violators in our country who need to be dealt with. But we are now focusing on numbers over all else.”
